A FILM SERIES
Applying aesthetic, dramatic and psychoanalytic lenses, this film series explores the intricate and powerful forces of familial and cultural trauma in childhood. Embedded in cultural mores and conflicts, the family of origin's translation and transmission of subtle and blatant trauma impacts children in searing, self-altering ways. The child's indistinct and as yet undefended lens internalizes these experiences in a manner that complicates and thwarts future development. The films in this series give us glimpses into how traumas occur, how the repercussions unfold, and how they reverberate in both families and culture. This course will be of interest to mental health workers as well as individuals interested in psychoanalytis and cinema. Evenings will involve a screening of the film, a discussion, and then open-ended dialogue among all participants.
